Montessori ONE Academy has broken ground on a new project it says is the first Montessori assisted living community in the country.
The Amaran Senior Living facility will provide senior living and memory care following the Montessori Method principles, Montessori ONE Academy said in a release.
Albuquerque-based Paaru Builders is the general contractor on the 81,000-square-foot project located at 9100 Holly Ave. NE. The $22 million project is being funded via a loan from Sandia Laboratory Federal Credit Union, according to Paaru Group. The facility is expected to open in fall of 2020. Once open, Oregon-based Insight Senior Living will operate the facility. Dekker/Perich/Sabatini is the architect on the project.
The Amaran Senior Living facility will share its campus with Montessori ONE Academy to “create a community founded upon deep respect, honor and commitment to each individual member, as embodied in Montessori theory.” The campus will implement Montessori for aging and dementia by fostering independence through purposeful and personalized engagement, according to a release. The facility will offer studio, one-bedroom and two-bedroom units.
Montessori ONE Academy also celebrated the grand opening of its 11,000-square-foot Nido infant learning center next door at 9300 Holly Ave. NE. Business First reported on the project when it broke ground in August 2018. Montessori ONE Founder and Director Tina Patel told Business First the expansion will increase the school’s capacity from 155 to approximately 230.
